Electricity is something I took for granted in my childhood. We had a few blackouts which made for great excitement that we could miss school for the day but nothing more. In BURUNDI, having little or no electricity is the norm for most people. Recently a few of the teenage children in YADA asked if they could stay longer at the YADA compound to do their homework. “Why” asked our teacher. The answer: “there is NO electricity at home and we cant get our homework done”. That’s the scenario for all of our families.

As Christmas was approaching I asked a friend if they could help us raise money to buy every family a solar light. She rallied her home group which is part of our amazing home church, Shore Street. They organised an event which brought a whole community together. They raised an outstanding amount of money which not only allowed for each family and our staff to receive a light but also meant we could feed over 150 children and adults on Christmas Eve AND give a 3 day food parcel. Praise God, we are all so thankful! You can see the joy in our families above and below. The light is made in Norway and so excellent quality and also has a USB port where they can charge their phones.

We had such a wonderful Christmas Eve celebrating God’s faithfulness and goodness.
Please join with us in:
1. Giving thanks for all the hard work and effort that went into organising and carrying out the community fundraising event.
2. Praising God for the amount raised and all that could be distributed to families.
3. Rejoicing that we could have a great Christmas party.
4. Giving thanks that families can see at night!!!
