We are happy to unveil the first finished home of our housing project! Zira, a widow and the village midwife, was elected by the village committee to be the first in line to exchange her mud and rubbish shack for a home that will be a safe refuge for her family for decades to come – as well as a clean and secure place for future Gihanga babies to be born!
Watch this short video below to see the transformation!
While we’re extremely satisfied to see Zira and her family living in a more secure home, there are dozens more in line behind her. Initially we hoped to build them all at once in phases, but this proved too difficult financially. So next week we will start groundbreaking on 2 more homes for another widow (left) who has 2 grandchildren living with her and for a family with 5 children (right).

While we are excited to continue working on homes, we only have enough funding to finish these 2, but there are dozens more to go, all in just as desperate and unsafe living conditions as these families. Many are widows. All have small children and many new babies.
Time is of the essence as we’re fighting daily increasing inflation rates in Burundi. What a home costs today will be more tomorrow, so we would like to complete as many as we can before the prices become even higher.
The only thing standing in our way is funding.
We always love to see families or friend groups (like Bible studies and book clubs) go in on a house together – so we humbly ask that you would consider partnering with us so more of our Gihanga friends can sleep securely like Zira!
If you would like to support this life-changing work for the families in Gihanga, or you have any questions about this project, please reach out! 🙏🏾 Or if you’re ready to give now, head over to our donate page, and be sure to read the instructions carefully.
We know that “unless the Lord builds the house, the laborers build in vain (Ps. 127:1)” so we trust this sacred work into the hands of the only One who can provide.
Lastly, we want to offer a sincere thank you to those of you who helped make these 3 homes happen. We’re excited to keep you updated on the two we’ll finish in the coming weeks.
In faith, we will pray in the rest of the homes until one day we see all of Gihanga transformed!
Two of Consancis and Osias’ little girls who will soon be sleeping no longer on a dirt floor but in their new home! They are also apart of our porridge program, which you can read about here.
