Oink Oink

At a regular community meeting in December 2021 people asked if YADA would help them buy pigs as a way of helping their families. It is so good when ideas come for the families because they have already thought through the process and automatically take more ownership and responsibility. We told the community we would think about it and that they must pray for funding to do such a project.

A week later I received a phone call from a dear friend that i lived with in my early days in Burundi. She explained that the couple she worked for would like to support an organisation working in Burundi. Did we have any projects that they could help with?? WOOO HOOOO YES! We wrote a proposal for the Pig Project and submitted it. This couple not only gave the money for the pig project but the rest of the money we needed at the time for the motorbike. God Is Good!

In order to get the best possible result from this project we have spent the last couple of months training families (and ourselves!) on the best practice of pig rearing. A Memorandum Of Understanding was also drawn up between the families and YADA. For one year families will have access to a Vet, their pigs will be inseminated once and half of the litter will be given to YADA. This will allow YADA to help moire families. They agreed that no one would sell their pig before one year. This MOU was signed by all families with our manager Abel in the photo below.

Before each family received their pig they had to make a pen for it. This was to ensure they didn’t keep the pig in their house. The man above right is proudly showing us his pig pen. So far it has been an extremely positive project especially as the men of the families have been so proactive and involved. This is huge breakthrough! We are excited to see how this project develops.

Please join with us in:

1. Giving thanks for the provision of the pig project
2. Thanks for the involvement of the men
3. Thanks for all that God is doing in YADA
4. Pray that this project would be very successful and families move out of the cycle of poverty
